The Police Public School, meant for children of police personnel but now open for everyone, on Thursday received recognition from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to run classes up to 12th standard.
The school, operated by the Home department, is situated in Pensionbada in capital city Raipur.
The school building was reportedly lying unused for several years due to which it got damaged.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel directed that the school be revived. The building was repaired and the school resumed with classes up to 8th standard under a new management.
The management applied for CBSE recognition. A CBSE team inspected the premises, leading to its recognition.
With this, students can now take admission in Class 9 from the new academic session. Also, along with children of police personnel, the school has been thrown open for everyone.
Director General of Police D.M. Awasthi said the school's uniqueness is that even police personnel who meet the required standards take the role of teachers.
The school has a computer lab, a playground and teaches music. It is run on a no-profit mode, resulting in lower fees compared to other schools.
