Now the RuPay card issued to an account holder under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) could be used for getting the insurance amount in case of accidental deaths.The Union Ministry of Finance has formed an assistant system under which in case of accidental death the concerned insurance company will have to pay the amount within 10 days following the submission of all required documents. The Union Finance Secretary has already sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh in this connection. The State Finance Department from Mantralaya Naya Raipur has released a circular to all district Collectors in this regard, officials informed on Saturday.
The circular has been sent to the convener of different state level Banker Committee and head of Banks in the State.Officials informed that under the PMJDY every account holder is provided with accidental insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh. In case if any account holder suffers accidental death then the RuPay card issued to account holder could be used by his nominee for getting insurance money.The circular further stated that in case of accidental death the concern police station should inform the State level head of the bank mentioned in RuPay card within 24 hours. The name of card holder, address, RuPay card number and date of death should be provided to the bank head.
For this reason the details of all state level bank heads including the phone number and their e-mail id has been provided to district Collectors, officials informed.The circular further mentioned that in case of accidental deaths the concerned police station should swiftly send the death information, FIR, postmortem report and viscera report to bank provided these do not affect the police investigation.
