Reduced premium of two per cent premium for Kharif crop and one-and-half per cent for Rabi crop with inclusion of localised calamities, post-harvest losses and other provisions in Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme (PMCIS)-2016 will work as a shield for farmers and significantly transform their lives,” stated Chief Minister Raman Singh.
Interacting with media on Wednesday, Singh said it would be the insurance scheme with lowest premium in the history of independent India and expressed gratitude towards the Central Government for approving the scheme in the Union Cabinet.
The insurance scheme will economically strengthen farmers and also protect them from the adverse impact of global economic market, Singh said, elaborating that with implementation of the insurance scheme, farmers have to pay less premium and get timely claims for the fully insured.
Singh further informed that the new insurance scheme would be implemented from Kharif season this year and will replace two existing schemes which are National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NIAS) and modified NIAS.
“The State government and the Centre will share the burden of loss and consent in this regard has already been given by the Chhattisgarh Government,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also highlighted the provisions of insurance scheme approved by the Union cabinet which include two per cent premium for Kharif crop and one-and-half per cent for Rabi crop, limit on loss covered removed and complete loss to be compensated, earlier the crop insurance was on crop loss but now even loss of seed will be covered, post-harvest losses on farm will also be covered, use of new technology to include smartphone and mobile application for assessing loss at panchayat level, localised risk like landslide and inundation due to floods will also be covered besides others.
