Plan for new road from railway station to Telibandha

The State Government has plans to construct a 30-metre wide road alongside the  narrow gauge railway track between Raipur railway station and Telibandha locality of the city.

The State Government has sought a total of 20 hectares of land, by the side of the railway track, from the Railways to construct the road. The Government had allotted over 96 hectares of land costing Rs178 cr to the Railways for laying a track in Naya Raipur. In place of that, the Government has now demanded land by the side of rail track between Raipur railway station and Telibandha, official sources here informed.

The Railway has constructed a new station in Telibandha. Now most of the trains of narrow gauge will move from Telibandha. The rail line from Telibandha to Raipur railway station is being used for bringing engines to the station for cleaning.

Recently a meeting was held between State Government officers and the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), at which the proposal to construct a road on the six-and-half-km long strip from the station to Telibandha was placed.

However, there is a proposal to run the trains coming from Dhamtari via Kendri-Naya Raipur-Mandir Hasaud to Raipur railway station. The work on laying rail line from Kendri to Mandir Hasaud is in progress.

The width of the land alongside the rail line from Telibandha to Raipur railway station is 30 metres. The proposal has been given to construct road on this land. On both the sides of the railway line there are slum colonies. Preparations are on to shift theses 500 slum dwellers from here to the building constructed under BSUP at Saddu.

The Government has said that the Railway should give permission to it for constructing road on either side of the narrow gauge from Telibandha to Raipur railway station. With this arrangement, the traffic system would be smooth and encroachment from the railway land would be removed and proper management for clearance of water-logging on the sides of railway track could be done.
