Public health engineering department secretary Ganesh Shankar Mishra on Friday made a surprise visit to the office of the engineer in chief. During the inspection, chief engineer (monitoring) TD Shandilya was found absent. He has been served showcause notice for remaining absent without information. The secretary’s surprise inspection caused a flutter in the office.
Mishra visited chambers of all officers and took information of works being done, sitting arrangements and their arrival and exit from the office. He was accompanied by E-in-CTG Kosariya.
It is said that it was the first time when an officer of the secretary level made a surprise inspection of the office of any head of department. When Mishra during the inspection reached the chamber of CE (monitoring), the latter was found absent. At this, the secretary sought information from the E-in-C, he expressed his ignorance about it. Thereafter, the secretary called SE (administration) and establishment clerk, asking whether the CE gave any application. He was told there was no application from the officer.
Mishra expressed his displeasure over unsatisfactory answer by the E-in-C. Objecting to the absence of CE level officer, the secretary told all officers should observe discipline and maintain punctuality of time in office. He also disapproved of employees and officers’ daily commuting from Bhilai. He issued instructions to seek explanation from the CE over his absence.
