Chhattisgarh PCC chief Mohan Markam on Tuesday hit out at BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra for leveling charges against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi alleging her involvement in the National Herald newspaper case.
Patra said in Chhattisgarh earlier on Tuesday that Gandhi was involved in money laundering worth Rs 5,000 crores.
Markam reacted while speaking at a protest site in Raipur where the Congress staged a demonstration against the Enforcement Directorate for quizzing Gandhi for a second time.
Markam said the total assets of the National Herald was a mere 10 percent of the amount that Patra had spoken about.
The Modi government was pressuring the ED to malign the image of Gandhi, he said.
Sonia Gandhi appeared before the ED for a second time on Tuesday in connection with the National Herald case.
