His work hardly spares time for other activities yet Deputy General Manager (DGM) (PR) of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company ltd (CSPGCl) Vijay Kumar Mishra has planted over 2,000 plants of different varieties including some rare finding plants.
Mishra, who has a zeal for protecting environment and spreading greenery, has turned the barren surroundings of his residence into a lush green garden with plants like Krishna Vat, Nag Champa, Kaner etc. The plants grown over 15-20 feet height are bearing flowers and also provide shade for the passersby from scorching sunrays.
Inspired by his father late SN Mishra and grandmother late Uma Devi Choube, Mishra developed the love for plants and environment right from his childhood. He groomed that feeling into a habit and now wherever he goes either on a national or international tour (China, Nepal, Thailand and Sri lanka), he brings plants from everywhere and plants them in his garden.
Apart from developing his own garden and adding to the greenery of his surrounding, Mishra motivates others for plantation and educates them about significance of environment. He believes that spending huge money in plantation it of no avail unless plantation is done with the feeling of selfless service and care. The trees planted by him also include neem, mango, banana, custard apple, guava, coconut, tulsi, eloevera, sweet neem etc.
Mishra has received a number of awards by a number of organizations including environment institutions (private and public) for his contribution. He is very well supported by his family members including wife Ratna, son Yugantar and Virasat who help him in the noble work. It is due to his passion for plants, he is popularly known as ‘Ped Ka Papa’ (father of plants)
