In a shocking case of murder-cum-suicide, a 28-year-old man from Haryana killed a woman in front of her two minor children before shooting himself at her house in central Delhi’s Ranjit Nagar area on Tuesday evening.
Police suspect the accused identified as Rakesh alias Deepak, had come fully prepared to eliminate the woman as they have recovered two country-made pistols from the spot.
The 29-year-old woman identified as Priyanka Sharma, married Shipu Sharma ten years ago and the couple has two children, Avni (5) and Chirag (2). Shipu who works in a battery company as a delivery agent was out for work when the incident took place.
Police are investigating the murder-cum-suicide from all possible angles, including illicit relations between the two as Priyanka and Rakesh were college friends.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Parmaditya said, “Priyanka was lying outside the house while the man, identified as Rakesh alias Deepak, was on the doorstep.
“Both were rushed to hospital where doctors declared them brought dead,” he added.
One of Priyanka’s neighbour’s told The Pioneer: “I was at home when I heard two bullet shots. I came out and found Priyanka lying in a pool of blood a few meters away from her house. Her two children were screaming and crying next to her.”
Prima facie, it appears Rakesh and Priyanka had a fight before the bloodbath. According to Shipu’s younger brother Harish Sharma, who lives in the same locality, Rakesh used to come to the house in the absence of Priyanka’s husband.
“Shipu had objected several times and also complained to Priyanka’s mother who lives in Rohtak. However Priyanka told Shipu that Rakesh was a cousin from her native place. But we had never met him before and I heard that Rakesh had been coming to the house for the last two years in my brother’s absence. My brother was aware of their relationship but was silent as he did not want to sully his family’s image,” said Harish.
