Panic button was pressed at the ever busy Shastri Chowk after a bus carrying inmates of Raipur Central Jail was chocked with smokes due to some mechanical fault in the battery of the vehicle Thursday evening. No one was hurt in the incident, informed Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Pankaj Chandra.
Talking with The Pioneer over phone Chandra informed that the incident happened between 6.30 to 7 pm while the vehicle carrying jail inmates was returning to the jail after attending the hearing at the district court.
“Suddenly due to some fault in the battery of the vehicle smokes started emanating and after short circuit it filled the inner portion of the bus suffocating the occupants. However, the jail inmates were taken out safely,” said ASP.
He further informed that police quick reaction team (QRT) also reached the spot and all 65 jail inmates were cordoned off. Within 10 minutes another vehicle was arranged and all the jail inmates were shifted to Raipur Central Jail, Chandra claimed.
