More than 60 people in Jagannath Nagar, Pandri, Stanami Para, Jhanda Chowk and other areas are suffering from various diseases like jaundice, diarrhoea, fever and cold. The Municipal Corporation on Friday held a health camp at Jagannath Nagar, in which large number of patients attended until evening.
According to sources, people had complained to the Municipal Corporation administration of contaminated water supply in Pandri area since last few days, but the officers did not show any interest to the complaints. However, on Thursday, more than a dozen people of the area reported suffering from jaundice, including corporator Chandra Bohra and his daughter. People complained that because of contaminated water being supplied through pipelines, diseases like jaundice, diarrhoea and other contagious diseases were spreading in the area, but the Municipal Corporation administration has been silent on the issue.
Following the report of large number of people suffering from jaundice and diarrhoea, the Health Department of the Municipal corporation held a health camp in the area on Friday. Dr Bhagyalakshmi Rao and her team attended the camp, checked, and distributed medicines to the patients. The officers who have attended the camp said that about 10,000 chlorine tablets were distributed to the area. The camp will be continued on Saturday also.
Mobile units working under the Mukhyamantri Shahri Swasthya Yojana have been deployed in the jaundice and diarrhoea affected localities. The doctor and other employees posted in the mobile unit visited house-to-house and treated people suffering from jaundice, diarrhoea and other diseases. The unit would move in the localities on Saturday also.
The health officers deployed in the camp said that the patients reportedly suffering from jaundice were old ones and no new case was reported.
Municipal Corporation Zone-3 commissioner SK Rathore said that on getting complaints of jaundice and diarrhoea, water and health department teams had been deployed in the related areas and water of the area has been tested, along with health checkup of the affected people. However, information about the patients reached the camp and leakage in pipelines has not been received.
Municipal Corporation speaker and Zone-3 president Sanjay Shrivastava said that he, along with the officers, had visited the affected areas and met the patients. He said that because of leakage in pipelines Pandri area was getting contaminated water. Water department team has collected water samples from 8 places. The test report will get soon, he added.
Shrivastava said that diseases were also spreading as cleaning of the roads and drains were not being done and for that Kiwar Company is responsible.
