Accounts of over 500 Pahadi Korwa girls in Ambikapur town in Chhatttisgarh's Surguja district have been opened under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, an official communiqué said on Tuesday.

This scheme is part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. It encourages families to create a fund for their daughter's education.

It also contributes to the educational expenses by paying an interest on the funds. For this, the girl's age should be less than 10 years.

Accounts under this scheme can be opened through post offices, public sector banks and three private sector banks: HDFC, Axis and ICICI.

Pahadi Korwa is a protected special backward tribe whose members live in Jashpur, Surguja, Balrampur and Korba districts.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, 11 initiatives of nine central ministries are to be implemented in special backward tribal-dominated areas within the next three years, the communique said.
