More than 45,000 weavers have been provided employment in Chhattisgarh, thanks to Chhattisgarh State Handicrafts Development and Co-operative Marketing Federation.
Federation officials informed that as many as 45,846 weavers were currently engaged in manufacturing various types of garments by working on 15,300 looms. As per their capability, the weavers are earning Rs200 to Rs400 per day.There are as many as 234 primary committees associated with the Federation which help in manufacturing of curtain cloths, polyester suiting, shirting, mosquito-net, poplin, blanket etc.
Most of the manufactured materials are supplied in government departments especially Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department, Woman and Child Development Department, Rajiv Gandhi Shiksha Mission, Forest and Health Department etc.As per the official records, the Federation had supplied cloth worth Rs72 crore to the various government departments as per their demand during 2013-14. The Federation had bought thread worth Rs61.72 crore and paid Rs35.56 crore as labour charges to the primary co-operative committees for manufacturing cloth in this period.
The Federation had an order of Rs60,000 to supply cloth to the Government departments in 2002-03, which reached Rs115.27 crore in 2013-14. The same was expected to reach up to Rs120 crore for the current financial year i.e. 2014-15.
