Opposition walks out over ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a walkout from the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Wednesday over the denial of benefits of the Central government scheme of ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ to the poor.

During Question Hour, BJP's Ranjana Dipendra Sahu sought details on implementation of ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ (providing tap water to each household) and          targets from 2020 to 2023 including year-wise details of central-state funds.

Public Health Engineering Minister Guru Rudra Kumar said in his reply that till June 2022, the target of 6,25,704 tap          connections have been achieved while 32,49,295 tap connections are pending.

The BJP leaders objected to the mention of Naxalite affected areas and Covid-19 pandemic in the answer for delay in implementation of the scheme.

Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said the scheme, started in 2020, is to be completed by 2023. With just 14 months left, how can the remaining 32,49,295 tap connections be fixed, he asked.

Alleging the state              government’s laxity, the          BJP members trooped out of the House on the first day of the monsoon session.
