Opposition trying to sow confusion: Brijmohan

Published on:

The opposition parties are trying to create confusion among farmers although the new farm bills passed by Parliament will empower the farming community, former Chhattisgarh Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said on Thursday.

Addressing the media virtually, Agrawal said Chhattisgarh has around 39 lakh farmers out of which 13-16 lakh sell their produce at the Minimum Support Price while the remaining sell through other sources.

The BJP leader said the bills mark a new beginning in the country and the Congress and other opposition parties are opposing it just for the sake of it. The bills will hit the middlemen the most. Private investment will further enhance the agriculture sector.

On contract farming, he said it is like the present system of rental farming. The industrialist or private player will enter an agreement with farmers to provide all inputs and materials for farming. If any loss of crops occurs, the total responsibility lies on the investor not the farmer, he said. The land of farmers will always remain with them.

The BJP will run a campaign to explain to the farmers the truth behind the bills, he said.
