Accusing the Chhattisgarh government of not enforcing prohibition despite an election pledge, the opposition BJP on Tuesday sought details of the suggestions from committees set up to implement a ban on liquor.
The government told the Assembly on the second day of the Monsoon session that no meetings were held on the subject due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik representing BJP MLA Vidyaratan Bhasin demanded details from the Industries and Excise Minister on the recommendations made by the committees constituted for implementation prohibition.
He also wanted to know the revenue earned from liquor sale in 2019 and 2020.
Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar said for implementing total prohibition, three committees were set up -- one of political leaders, other of community leaders and an administrative panel.
After their formation in 2019, these committees met once but due to Covid-19 no further meetings were held.
Kaushik said that if no meetings have been held, it reflects the reluctance of the government to implement the election promise made to the people of the state.
He said all these committees be dissolved if they do not have any relevance.
Akbar reiterated the government's commitment for total prohibition.
