Only Cong can give stable Govt: Ajit Jogi

Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi on Tuesday said it is his party which can give a stable, socialist, and secular Government at the Centre. Criticising the opposition parties for pointing fingers at the Congress party, the State’s first Chief Minister said such people should look at the achievement of the country during 60 years of Congress rule.

During the last ten years of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule alone several programmes and schemes were launched for the development of the country. They include Bharat Nirman, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Swasthya mission and many others. The Government also took the initiative in pioneering steps for developing the country’s infrastructure as a result of which the country has Metro rail, ATM, mobile, cyber cafe etc, he said.

It was because of the government steps that the economy grew by six per cent in the country at a time when the entire world struggled with economic meltdown, Jogi said. The Congress not only led the freedom movement but also played a major role for the development of the country after it got freedom, he said. India is in third position in the world for its better economy and is among the six countries in the globe to have nuclear power, the former Chief Minister said.

To eradicate corruption, on the initiative of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi the parliament passed the lok Pal bill. Besides this, he called a meeting of chief ministers of the Congress ruled states and directed them to control price rise and inflation, Jogi said.
