Police recovered old currency notes amounting to lakhs of rupees from a person during a raid in Kanker district of Bastar, police said on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the accused Vipul Haldar was held while trying to exchange old currency notes of Rs 500 totalling Rs 36,73,500 from Bande Police station limits of Kanker district, Kanker District Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jaiprakash Badhai informed.
The accused had admitted that a few days back, Maoists had handed over the amount for exchanging old currency notes with new ones, the ASP further informed.
