The Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company (CSPGC) has successfully completed ‘oil synchronisation’ work of its first 500 MW unit of the under construction 1000 MW Madwa Thermal Power Project at Janjgir-Champa district of the State.

This is also Chhattisgarh’s first unit coming under the category of a ‘Super Thermal Power Project,’ a statement of CSPGC stated on Tuesday. Providing details on the project, CGPGC managing director Janardhan Kar stated the mega power project under construction comprises two units of 500 MW each at Madwa-Tendubhata villages in the district.

He said the project comes under the category of ‘green field project’ which means that such projects are set up in regions where all basic infrastructure has to be developed right from the beginning. Kar said there are difficult challenges in realising projects of this scale but its completion would open many doors of development. The commissioning of such projects help provide avenues of employment besides easy development of facilities in the field of education, healthcare, transport and communication, he said.

Kar said it was the first time after the formation of Chhattisgarh that the work for construction of 500 MW unit was taken up as a result of which the 500 MW unit of Korba West Expansion Project was Synchronised on March 18, 2013 solely using coal as fuel. The project went on stream on September 16, 2013 and later dedicated to the people of Chhattisgarh.

In this direction, the ‘Oil Synchronization’ of the first unit of the Madwa Thermal Power Project was achieved on December 20, 2013 at 11.58 pm, Kar said. It may be mentioned that the total power generation capacity of Chhattisgarh after its formation was barely 1,360 MW which is currently at the level of 2424.76 MW while registering an increase of 1064.76 MW.

After the commencement of both units of the Madwa Thermal Power Project, the total power generation achieved by CSPGC would reach 3424.76 MW. After the formation of Chhattisgarh, there were only units of 50 MW, 120 MW and 220 MW capacity with CSPGC. The company later created a new record by commissioning units of 250 MW and 500 MW units in the State, Kar stated.

The company’s officials and employees were congratulated by Chief Minister Raman Singh, Chairman, CSPGC Shivraj Singh, Principal Secretary , Energy Department, Aman Kumar Singh and CSPGC Managing Director Janardhan Kar for achieving ‘Oil Synchronization’ of the 500 MW unit at Madwa .
