An official found demanding money from a beneficiary for issuing a ration card is liable to face six months of imprisonment, Additional Collector Neelkanth Tekam warned while speaking at a district-level public grievance redressal camp held at Bhatchaura village in Masturi Development Block.

He said that under the State’s Food Security law every eligible citizen would be offered a ration card. The officials at the camp received a total of 342 applications out of which 238 were redressed on the spot. They drew attention of the various problems being faced by the citizens and also apprised them of the action taken to redress their problems.

The Food Officer present on the occasion stated that the ration card would be issued only after all necessary documents had been received. He asked the villagers that they must report any corrupt practices such as officials demanding money to issue the ration card.

On the occasion, the Additional Collector also directed officials to take stern action against persons involved in illegal sale of liquor.
