NSUI releases poll manifesto

The Congress party backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday released its manifesto for the student union polls scheduled by the end of this month in the State. In its 17-point manifesto, NSUI promises to leave no stone unturned for getting the State’s oldest and biggest Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, the tag of a ‘Central University.’

“In its regime, the BJP Government established as many as seven Government universities in the State but six of them do not have their own building. Out of these, land has been allotted only to Bhilai, Ambikapur and Jagdalpur situated universities while remaining universities are yet to get land for developing their own buildings,” said NSUI State president Devendra Yadav. Yadav added that, “These universities do not have their own campus, thus they are ineligible to receive grant from the UGC. If we win, NSUI will stress on developing administrative and education building of these universities”.

In the manifesto, NSUI promises to construct a guest house/community hall in all universities of the State for providing free accommodation to the students and their parents visiting the campuses. They also promises to develop a lab in every university, giving 100 per cent priorities to the locals in vacant jobs in the universities, filling the vacant posts of assistant professors and mounting pressure on the State Government for providing free laptops to the students studying in these universities. Besides, NSUI’s manifesto consists of points including giving 50 per cent concession to the students in bus fare, movie thereafter ticket etc. and demanding to enforce the rule of giving 80 per cent priorities in jobs at different companies and factories to those students, who passed out from Engineering colleges in Chhattisgarh.

Earlier, Yadav took the opportunity to thank the Governor and Chancellor of Chhattisgarh for holding the students’ union election through direct voting system, this year. NSUI manifesto was released two days after the BJP’s students wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) disclosed its issues and strategies for the students union polls. A tough competition is expected between the students’ wings of both the major political parties. Both of them are making tall claims to register their victory in the students’ union election to be held through direct voting system after a long time.
