The student body elections in colleges and universities saw enthusiastic participation of youths across the State. The election held on Friday was overall incident-free.
After the elections at some places, friction was observed but strict vigil by administration averted any untoward incident.
Earlier, in the day, student leaders were seen requesting students to cast their votes in their favours. This time in most of the places there was direct contest between Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Student Union of India (NSUI).
However, at some places Chhattisgarh Janta Congress (Jogi) supported independent candidates among student leaders who managed to win some seats. Due to non-recognition of CJC(J) by Election Commission of India, the party officially could not field its candidates.
The final results were not declared till the reports last came in. Meanwhile, the State President of NSUI Akash Sharma claimed that NSUI had grabbed major portion of seats in various colleges across the State. He said that out of 800 colleges where elections were held, NSUI managed to pull majority of seats in 546 colleges.
In Raipur, out of 46 Colleges, NSUI won in 24 colleges, while ABVP won 13 in colleges. Six independent and one candidate was elected unopposed.
likewise, in Gariaband NSUI won in 7 colleges while 2 went to ABVP and 4 to independent. In Mahasamund also out of 11 colleges, ABVP won only in one college, while NSUI registered victory over 4 colleges; one was elected unopposed and in one college, elections were not conducted.
