Now, 'fire fighting motorbikes' to access narrow city lanes

Published on:

To deal with incidents of fire in narrow lanes and areas inaccessible by the fire engines, the Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) is planning  to get advanced ‘fire fighting motorbikes’.

A proposal has been sent by the JMC to the State government for purchase of such motorbikes. “The incidents of fire in dense localities with narrow lanes, the biggest challenge is accessibility. The firefighting motorbikes have been found useful in many cities. The number of motorbikes to be procured will be decided according to the need,’ said City Mayor Kiran Dev.

The motorbike is fitted with a water tank and will be able to create the required pressure to douse the fire according to the requirement. Apart from the water tank on board, the motorbike can also use the external sources of water. It can be easily connected to the external water tank or boring available near the spot. The fire fighting motorbikes will not be able to move through the narrow lanes, it will also reduce the response time in comparison to the fire engines. It can carry two firemen at a time.

According to senior JMC officers, a proposal in this regard was sent earlier also but the motorbike could not be purchased as the amount sanctioned by the government sanctioned was less than the requirement. A fresh proposal has been sent to the government and the motorbike will be purchased as soon as the amount is sanctioned.

Initially one motorbike will be brought for trial and if it is found useful more motorbikes will be purchased by the Corporation, an officer said.
