Tribal leader and Chhattisgarh Rajya Sabha member Phulo Devi Netam on Wednesday asked the Prime Minister to include 12 more tribal communities in the notified list of Schedule 342 for Schedule Tribes of the Constitution.
Citing the names of the communities, Netam in a letter to Narendra Modi demanded immediate action from the Union government to provide constitutional rights to these communities.
“Due to phonetic, scriptural or pronunciation differences, 12 of the tribal communities are prevented from being notified under Schedule 342 of the Constitution and this error has to be rectified,” the tribal leader said.
Despite requests from the Chhattisgarh government several times, there is no relief to these tribal communities from the Centre, she said.
