Not of revenue, concerned with people’s health, CM on prohibition

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said he will not be bothered by loss of revenue in the event of prohibition but was concerned about people’s health.

Baghel, replying to a woman in a village in his hometown Durg, said he favoured a ban on all addictive things including liquor.

A large number of people in the state are addicted to Gudakhu (a toothpaste blended with tobacco) and they too should take a pledge to quit it, he said.

"We saw during lockdown that the addicts consumed sanitizer and other syrups when liquor was not available. Four deaths were reported due to this which tells us how alarming it will be when liquor is not available," he said.

“I can enforce prohibition in one day but I have to look into the aftereffects."
