Officers and employees in the Tribal Welfare Department in Chhattisgarh’s Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district have been told to get vaccinated against Covid-19 if they desire their salary.
An order issued on May 21 by the Department's Assistant Commissioner, K.S. Masram, said those working in the office, ashrams and tribal hostels run by the department must get vaccine jabs and submit their certificates.
The order warned that the salary for next month will be withheld if they are not vaccinated.
Masram said on Thursday that the reason behind issuing the order was to ensure wholesale vaccination of officers and employees to speed up the battle against the pandemic.
He said that 95 percent of the officers and employees have got vaccinated after the order. His intention, he said, is not to withhold anyone's salary.
