No rethink on Modi as PM candidate, says Rajnath

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Rajnath Singh on Saturday ruled out any re-thinking on nomination of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the party’s prime ministerial candidate.

He was replying to Union law Minister Kapil Sibal’s statement that the BJP would be forced to re-think nominating Narendra Modi as its PM candidate while addressing a news conference here. “As the polls are nearing, the Congress is making baseless allegations on the party’s candidate. In fact, it is the Congress party which does not have a PM candidate. Who is the PM candidate for the Congress partyIJ” Singh asked.

The website Cobrapost has released a tape making baseless allegations on Narendra Modi in the Tulsi Prajapati murder case, he said. He said that an IPS Officer had given this tape to the CBI pertaining to Tulsi Prajapati murder case. “I would like to ask why this issue was raked up four years after the incident and how this tape had reached Cobrapost from CBI’s custody,” Singh said.

Tulsi Prajapati’s father wrote to Narendra Modi seeking police protection and he had also stated that he had family relations with the Chief Minister’s family, he said. The Congress party had consistently been hurling allegations on Narendra Modi. “We would  like to urge the Congress party to let the polls get conducted in a healthy manner in all the States,” Singh said.

He said that the Congress behaviour crossing all limits while making allegations make it appear that it has already accepted defeat in the polls. “The Congress will keep making allegations as the BJP has nominated Narendra Modi as its PM candidate. The more allegations they (Congress) makes, the stronger BJP is emerging in the country,” he said.

On the issue of insurgency in Chhattisgarh, Singh said that the centre should have prepared an action plan when naxalism was at its infancy. Even terrorism has spread its tentacles now across the country with SIMI activists being arrested in Raipur on Friday, Singh added. On the ongoing Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, the BJP national president remarked, “The BJP is ahead as per our observations after the first phase of polls. We will succeed in the second phase as well.”
