In a strange diktat, the Sarpanch of Karga Gram Panchayat in Durg district has asked Government fair price shop owner in the village not to provide ration to those residents of the village who have failed to construct toilets in their houses Congress legislator Bhupesh Baghel claimed.
“This is the result of heavy pressure on officers to achieve targets,” said Congress legislator Bhupesh Baghel while talking to reporters in the Chhattisgarh Assembly complex here on Friday.
While raising the issue, he informed that in his constituency (Patan) at Karga Gram Panchayat a request letter with joint signature of Sarpanch and Panchayat Secretary addressed to the fair price shop owner was released.
“In the letter, which has names of several residents of the village they have requested the shop owner not to give ration to these people as they have not got constructed toilets according to the directives issued by the administration in their houses,” he told reporters.
This is the clear violation of Chhattisgarh Food and Nutrition Security Act 2012 and National Food Security Act 2013, Baghel pointed. The Panchayat officials are under pressure from orders issued by the District Collector, he added.
The issue was later on raised in the House by leader of Opposition TS Singhdeo during the discussion on the supplementary budget.
