No polio case in State in 11 yrs

Not even a single case of polio has been reported from any of the districts in the State from the last 11 years, said State Immunisation Officer Dr Subhash Pandey on Sunday.

The country has not reported any polio case for the last three years. However, countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria and four other counties are still fighting against the disease. “This is why it is absolutely necessary to be a part of the global campaign to fight polio,” Pandey said.

Nearly 30 lakh of children between the age of zero and five in the State were administered polio vaccine on Sunday. The left-out children will be covered on Monday and Tuesday by door-to-door drive. Around 80,000 health officers are posted across the state to ensure that every child is covered under the drive. Under the drive that was conducted last month, around 36 lakh children were administered polio drops. The second phase of the drive was conducted on Sunday. Besides regular booths, polio centres were also set up at railway stations, bus stands and airport.
