No permission is required for cutting eucalyptus trees on private land in Chhattisgarh, the Forest Department announced on Thursday.
It was reported on May 19 that over 5,000 trees on about 125 acres in Jalso village in Raipur district's Tilda block had been cut in the last month, a press release said.
On the direction of the Raipur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), an inspection team found that the eucalyptus trees were planted in 2004-5 on 125 acres land belonging to a Goyal family -- which is private land. After a detailed investigation, it was found that permission is not required from the Forest Department and Revenue Department to cut eucalyptus trees on private land.
