Taking a preventive step to check sound pollution occurring due to firecrackers during the festive season, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has laid restrictions on sale of firecrackers creating sound above 145 decibel.
In the application form for license of sale of firecrackers, RMC has made it mandatory for the traders not to sell firecrackers which create sound beyond four meters and above 145 decibel. The crackers in ‘ladi’ (series or garland) have also been fixed.
It is worth mentioning that temporary shops are established in the Mela ground near Motitabela and the traders apply for license with the RMC every year. This year, the traders will have to submit the application with affidavit by October 4.
The RMC has also set guidelines for safety in storing the firecrackers in these shops. The firecracker traders have also demanded for a warehouse for storing the firecrackers, sources said.
