No financial crisis in state, borrowings far less than national average: Cong

Chhattisgarh Congress in a statement on Friday refuted the charges of the BJP that the state has been pushed into financial crisis by burdening it with heavy loans.

State general secretary and chairman communication wing of the state Congress Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said as compare to the payments made in the month of April, 2018, this year the Congress government had paid 1.5 fold more from the state exchequer.

“There is ample money for all the welfare schemes for social security, financial aids and grants, construction works, salaries and allowances in the state exchequer and regular payments are being made,” he said.

Regarding borrowing of loans, the Congress leader said it’s a normal practice that apart from the revenue receipt, government raises funds through borrowings, he pointed out saying there is nothing wrong in it.

“Chhattisgarh never crossed the annual credit limit set for states by the Government of India,” he said.

The loan component in the state GDP is 17.4% which is far below the national average of 24.3%”, the Congress leader claimed.

The Government of India had permitted the state to take loan up to Rs 12979 crore in financial year 2018-19 and the state’s borrowing of Rs 12,900 crore is well within that limit, the Congress leader clarified.

The Congress leader also refuted the charges of opposition BJP that the government has stalled construction works initiated by the previous government.

Almost 700 construction works, including road and building construction, irrigation projects and other works had been initiated, he said.

The rest of the development works will start after the model code of conduct for the elections is lifted, he added.
