The State Higher Education Department on Wednesday announced that there would be no direct student union elections in colleges and universities of the State this year.
Instead, nomination of meritorious students would be done for the Student’s Council, a circular issued by the Government informed.
It may be recalled here that National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had demanded direct student union polls in the State.
The direct student union elections were held in the State during the last three years and now the Government through an order has asked for student nominations to be submitted in the colleges by Principals and in Universities by Vice Chancellors.
A decision regarding the same was taken by the Government after a report was submitted by Vice Chancellors in the state, sources informed.
