Gaurishankar Agrawal, who was elected as Speaker of Chhattisgarh Assembly on Monday, assured all the 90 legislators that he would conduct the House business with complete impartiality and without any bias towards any party.
Delivering his address after being elected as the Speaker of the House, Agrawal said that this was the most significant and proud day in his public life as the House members had unanimously elected him as the Speaker by putting their faith in him.
“At first, I would like to express my gratitude to the people of Chhattisgarh and through the offices of the House, I would like to assure the people that the House would do its utmost through each of its elected members to meet the aspirations of an estimated 2.5 crore people,” he said. The Speaker said that the leader of the ruling party and the leader of Opposition are the two wheels of the democratic arrangement and their role in the conduct of the House proceedings would be most significant. “It is my belief that the State’s apex institution for public representation with the long experience of the two leaders will achieve high intellectual parameters,” the Speaker remarked.
Agrawal said that members from both the ruling party and Opposition who are well versed in parliamentary affairs and having the privilege of representing for long periods of time would benefit the House with their parliamentary knowledge and experience while serving as an inspiration to the new members of the House.
