Police seems to be groping in dark over the attack on a church and alleged attempt to burn a Pastor’s wife which happened at Karanji Matagudi Para Village under Parpa police station limits of Bastar district on Sunday evening.

“We have registered an FIR in this connection and are working on some important leads that could lead us to the culprits,” Bastar District Superintendent of Police (SP), RN Dash said.

However, he made it clear that police has not arrested anyone in this connection by Tuesday evening.

Notably, two unidentified men armed with sharp-edged weapons had barged into a church at Karanji Matagudi Para and allegedly set ablaze a Bible and other articles besides thrashing the Pastor and his pregnant wife.

The SP also informed that guards have been posted at the church and a delegation of Christian community had met him on Tuesday.

“They have expressed satisfaction over police action,” he added.

According to the complaint, two men identifying themselves as members of some other sect of the Christian community had expressed desire to pray in the church.

After accessing the premises, they had launched an attack on the Pastor and poured inflammable liquid on the Holy Bible, furniture and other religious material kept inside and set them ablaze. They had also reportedly thrashed the Pastor and his pregnant wife.

Police had registered a case under sections 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship), 392 (robbery), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt), 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC was registered against the unidentified persons, he added.
