A four-member team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday reached Raipur to conduct a probe into the alleged gang rape case that had occurred with a Nun at a medical facility located at Pandri area of the city last month. “The NHRC team has arrived in Raipur,” confirmed Superintendent of Police (SP), Raipur, BN Meena but denied of having any information about the probe being conducted by them.
Meanwhile, the NHRC team reached Aasha Niketan and interacted with people connected with the case. Notably, the Nun was allegedly gang raped by two unidentified persons on the intervening night of June 20 and 21 last at a hostel in a medical facility. The incident had sparked anger among the Christian community which had staged a series of protest in the city.
Various schools run by different Christian organizations were also closed for a day in protest. A formal complaint regarding the case was made to NHRC on July 6 and the Commission had decided to take up the case. The four-member team after reaching Raipur went straight to Asha Niketan and closely examined the premises.
