Chhattisgarh government will soon enact new accreditation rules for working journalists in the state making provision for providing accreditation by Directorate of Public Relation to even block-level press representatives.
The government will publish a gazette notification to promulgate the new rules, said a government communique.
Likewise, the provision of honorary accreditation for retired senior journalists of the state has also been included in the new rules.
In the context, Commissioner-cum-Director Public Relations Taran Prakash Sinha informed that till date, accreditation rules made in 2001 after formation of Chhattisgarh state were effective. But in past 18 years, media sector has undergone major transformation.
Meanwhile, many TV news channels, news web portals etc came into existence, bringing about major change in media work environment.
To make accreditation rules relevant and suitable for the current scenario and to acknowledge the role of new news media, major changes have been made in the accreditation rules, said the communiqué.
New Accreditation Rules include the provision of accreditation for correspondents, photographers and cameraman of TV news channels, news portals, news magazines etc, besides newspapers.
Commissioner Sinha also informed that like before, state and division-level representatives will be responsible for providing accreditation to news media representatives. But clear provisions have been made for committees to include electronic media.
Sinha has expressed hope that with implementation of the new accreditation rules, the previous complaint of news media representatives not getting accreditation will be resolved.
