The Congress on Thursday said Maoist infested districts in the state increased from three bordering blocks of Bastar to 14 districts during the BJP’s 15-year rule in the state, refuting BJP president Amit Shah’s claim that Naxalism thrived during the Congress rule.
In a statement, state general secretary and chairman of communication wing of the PCC, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said Shah might have accepted the failure of erstwhile Raman Singh government in tackling the menace.
Trivedi further alleged that former chief minister Raman Singh also failed to get central assistance in combating the red terror in the state.
Even though there was a BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh had provided six-time more money to Uttar Pradesh for tackling Naxal menace, despite Chhattisgarh facing serious trouble and not UP.
This step-motherly attitude towards the Chhattisgarh was one of the reasons for menace spreading its tentacles in 14 of the 27 districts in the state, Trivedi said.
There was also no clear intention of Raman government to curb the Naxal menace, he added.
