A hardcore Naxalite, in search of a peaceful life, surrendered to the police in Chhattisgarh's violence-hit Dantewada district on Tuesday, police said. He carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head.
The Maoist, Bheema Markam, 22, a resident of Katekalyna in Dantewada district, was involved in the October 2018 Nilawaya ambush in which a Doordarshan cameraman and three policemen were killed, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav said.
Markam was also part of a Maoist team that attacked a police convoy in 2019 at Petedabba in the district, the officer added.
Markam was a member of the Maoist platoon number 24 active under Naxal Malangir Area Committee. He carried a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, the SP said.
Maoists recruited Markam in 2014, police said.
