A hardcore Naxal commander, carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, was arrested during a search operation in the insurgency-hit Narayanpur, police said on Wednesday. The wanted guerrilla was involved in the deadly Maoist ambush in 2010 at Dhaudai where 27 CRPF men were butchered, Additional Superintendent of Police Narayanpur OP Sharma said.

Police said that the arrested Naxal was identified as Dhansingh Korram (35) alias Sukhdev. He was arrested by a team of local police that was on a search/combing operation in the forests 5 km from Jhara police station.

Apart from the 2010 incident, Korram was also involved in several deadly attacks in Narayanpur region in which security personnel were killed or injured, the ASP said, adding, 13 permanent warrants had been issued by the local court for his arrest.

According to police, the arrest is crucial ahead of parliamentary polls as he could have created trouble for security forces.

The ASP said that it was Korram who had planted the bomb in Kongera village of the district in which two children were injured in the month of December last year. He was involved in several serious criminal offences, ASP maintained.

Korram had served on key posts, including area commander, militia commander and platoon commander in the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist). While he was nabbed he was serving as deputy commander of local guerrilla squad (lGS) prominently active in Jhara and Dhaudai regions, the ASP told The Pioneer.
