On hearing the name of Narayanpur district in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh, people outside the State start visualising the dreaded scenes of Naxal violence, however, it would be a pleasant surprise for them to know that the new generation here is highly enthusiastic towards education.
With the joint efforts of the Government, administration and social institutions, children in this district are preparing themselves for competition in subjects like mathematics.
In order to increase interest towards education among the children studying in schools and ashram schools in this Naxal-hit district, a ‘Maths Olympiad’ will be organised at the district headquarters on May 8 from 11 in the morning.
According to sources, the district administration and the Narayanpur district panchayat, with the association of a Delhi-based social organisation ‘l-Captain’ have been organising this district-level maths quiz competition.
On April 28, a block-level Maths Olympiad was organised at Orchha block headquarters, known as the gateway of Abujhmarh, in which children of the area participated with enthusiasm.
District panchayat CEO Kartikeya Goyal on Tuesday said that preparation for the district-level maths olympiad on May 8 has been completed. The competition will be held in the district panchayat meeting hall.
He said that children from 13 selected schools and ashram schools of remote areas of the district like Abujhmarh would participate in the quiz completion.
Goyal said that during the past one-and-half months, the Delhi-based social institution l-Captain has been teaching maths to the children of I to V classes from the schools situated in Orchha, Ghoudai, Kongera, Dhanora, Chhotedongar and Devgaon. The institution, after selecting one teacher from each of these schools, imparted training to them and focussed ts full attention to teach maths to the children through these trained teachers.
Programme coordinator of l-Captain Sakshi Mooga said that full attention has been given to teach these schoolchildren in a better way during school time.
To solve maths questions, kits were provided to these children, as study material. As such, regular monitoring of the study of children as well as teaching of the teachers has been done.
