Police on Saturday unearthed Naxal dump of explosives and recovered as many as eight Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) in Chhattisgarh’s peace-loving Kawardha district.

Senior police officials claimed that it was the first ever recovery of any Naxal dump explosives in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s home district Kawardha which has never witnessed any Naxal incidents.

The IEDs were packed in containers and were recovered from a dense forest stretch falling in limits of Rengakhar police station, Kawardha Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Bhagat told The Pioneer.

According to Bhagat, acting urgently on a specific input about presence of Naxal-dump in forests in Rengakhar region, a police team immediately launched an intense search and area domination exercise resulting in recovery of explosives from two dumps.

“During the course of search, police personnel recovered as many as eight IEDs totalling around 15 kg, detonators, batteries and other stuffs from two naxal-dumps,” informed  Bhagat.

“Since, the region is close to Balaghat and Rajnandgaon, leftist insurgents might be using the dense forest as their hideout’’ said Bhagat.

He further stated that in a wake of recovery, police have intensified combing and area domination exercises in the region in a bid to recover more such Naxal dumps if any.
