Nationwide campaign against bills from Sept 26: Punia

The Congress will hold a march to the Governor's office in Chhattisgarh on September 29 unlike the rest of the country since there will be a total lockdown in Raipur on September 28, AICC General Secretary P.L. Punia announced on Thursday.

In other states, the protest will be held on September 28, with a          memorandum addressed to the President opposing the bills submitted to the Governors.

Punia, who is in-charge of Chhattisgarh, told the media virtually that even the RSS and Swadesh Jagran Manch as well as NDA’s until now ally Akali Dal have opposed the agricultural bills.

He added that on September 26, through social media, a ‘Speak Up for Farmers’ will be organized.

On October 2, a ‘Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Diwas’ (Save Farmer, Workers Day) will be observed in all Assembly constituency headquarters. It will be followed by a state-level convention of party cadre on October 10. A signature campaign will follow from October 2 to 31.

Chhattisgarh will submit around 20 lakh signatures while 2 crore signatures will be collected. These along with the memorandum will be submitted to the President on November 14, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Accepting that the Congress brought up these issues in the 2019 election manifesto, Punia said the plan was to end the bigger Mandis which cover 450 sq km. Against it, the plan was to build ‘Kisan Bazaar’ in each bigger village with total infrastructure and alternative mode.

He said the plan was to constitute a Commission having representation from farmers. It would recommend a MSP binding to the government. The C-2 formula of the Swaminathan Committee report where farmers’ family labour and land rental will be included in fixing the MSP.
