While reporting issues relating to women and child, the mainstream media should look into the factors affecting their security and well being, so that people could be sensitized about their problems, expressed Geeta Tai Gunde, All India Head, Mahila Samanwaya. She was speaking at the inaugural session of the national seminar ‘Women & Child Protection and Media’ at Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication on Wednesday.
She further said that the media influences the society a lot and hence media should not only aim at informing but also creating sensitization about issues affecting the society. The seminar was jointly organized by Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Chhattisgarh State Child Rights and Protection Commission (CSCRPC) and Mahila Samanwaya.
Presiding over the ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Sachchidanand Joshi said even several decades after the country’s independence, women and girls are still being neglected and are yet to get healthy and secured atmosphere to live in. The same was case with children. Keeping this in view, he said, leaders and media, who yield a good influence over the society, should work in the direction of creating a better atmosphere for women and children. Citing the example of the German Professor who, looking at the recent ‘rape’ incidents in India had recently rejected an application of a Indian PhD scholar, Dr Joshi said it’s time everybody should work for changing that perception about India.
Chairperson, Chhattisgarh State Child Rights and Protection Commission (CSCRPC) Satabdi Subodh Pandey said living environment like poverty and unemployment in the family plays a significant role in putting children into crime. Hence, the issue could only be dealt with effectively once the root cause is identified and tackled, she said. Other speakers in the technical sessions include Dr Rameshwari pandya, Dr Priya Rao, Madhuri Sakulkar, Priyanka kaushal, Pritik Khare.
