Chhattisgarh will organize different events as part of the National Eye Donation Fortnight from August 25 to September 8.
Bemetara Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Khemraj Sonwani said on Wednesday that an awareness campaign will be organized in the state to donate eyes.
Sonwani said eyes can be donated even after death.
He added that the donor should not have been affected by rabies, AIDS, tetanus, hepatitis, snake bite, leprosy, eye cancer, septicemia or any other contagious diseases.
If a person has corneal opacity, it affects the vision. If the cornea is changed, the person’s blindness can be cured. Apart from it, the cornea needs change in case of lack of vitamin A, malnutrition, corneal dystrophy or congenital cases, Sonwani said.
He said an eye can be donated six hours before death. He urged people to donate eyes so that the vision of two persons can be restored.
