There is much scope of working on tribal life culture in theatre which needs to be explored, Prof. Waman Kendre Director of National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi said. He was in Raipur on Thursday to participate in National Tribal Dance Festival titled ‘Aadi Parab’. Talking over the event, noted theatre personality and also alumni of NSD, Prof Kendre said that this event in Raipur is the third in its series.
“Earlier, we had conducted a similar national event in Mumbai where indigenous tribal people across the nation had participated. The notion was to provide a national platform to tribal people for showcasing their art forms and also giving a chance to people living in metro cities to know the tribal people in a better way,” he said.
Earlier while talking to reporters he stated that a Tribal Performing Art Centre would be established in NSD. According to Prof. Kendre, Chhattisgarh has identity of tribal State and tribals here are much diversified.
“They have varied languages, culture and music. I feel that there is good space for doing work on tribal art and culture,” he said. During past 55 years, much work was done in different subjects by modern theater however Tribal issues were left behind and there is need to expand this area. Tribal culture has its own identity and the State Government’s Culture Department has provided good support in organising this event, he remarked.
