The mass movement for revival of Indravati river, the life-line of Bastar region has been intensified with social activists and local citizens pulling their might to bring the water body back to life.
Their silent march that started from Jora Nullah along Odisha border reached the ninth day on Thursday. The march will culminate at Chitrakot.
The social activists and citizens threaten to continue their agitation until their demands are fulfilled.
The activists braving scorching heat and thorny pathways marched ahead to press for the revival of the river.
They are expressing concern over depleting water-level of the river which caters to the day-to-day water need of at least 200 villages located along its banks.
The activists under leadership of senior citizen Dharampal Saini are also trying to draw attention of the state government to have a talk with the Odisha government to sort out the dispute over release of water into Jora Nullah.
The release of water into Nullah by Odisha is a must and so is the construction of permanent structure in Jora Nullah, the activists said.
