Mother’s milk is priceless and like nectar for child. It is best food for child. Breastfeeding within half-an-hour of birth and only breastfeeding up to six months is most useful for both child and mother.
The effects of diseases are more among children up to one year and during the period special attention is needed towards breastfeeding. In order to make people aware of the importance of breastfeeding, like every year, breastfeeding week is being celebrated in Chhattisgarh from August 1 to 7.
According to children’s food specialists, colostrum (the yellow liquid) secreted from the breast of mother during parturition should not be wasted and it should essentially be given to the child. It is an important source of protein, vitamin-A and anti-bodies.
As per the specialists, breastfeeding saves child from loose motion and pneumonia, besides it would help preventing the child from bouts of ear infections, asthma and allergy. To fulfill the increasing needs for the growth of infants, it is necessary to give them sufficient food off and on, but only breastfeeding is sufficient for infants up to six months.
After six months, children should be given supplementary food, along with breastfeeding, which gives the child additional energy, protein and nutrient, with which the child gets
general growth. However, supplementary food is not an alternate to breastfeeding, but a source of additional nutrient to them.
