International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines, Director General Dr Matthew Morell went through the Hybrid Rice Production Programme of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGAU), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Sehradabri of Dhamtari district on Tuesday.
During the inspection, the IGAU Vice Chancellor Dr SK Patil said during the Kharif season the farming of hybrid rice in 1000 acres of land is done and in the Rabi season the farming of hybrid rice seed production programme is carried out in about 1500 acres.
Notably, Dhamtari district holds a special position in the Hybrid Rice Production Programme across the Chhattisgarh State.
Morell interacted with the farmers and inquired about their hurdles.
Officials said the paddy crop varieties IR-64 and IR-36 developed by IRRI are sown in Dhamtari district.
