Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Crop Insurance Scheme will prove to be a boon to the farmers.
On the directives of Chief Minister Raman Singh, the State Agriculture Department had made a blueprint to implement the Crop Insurance Scheme, he said.
The farmers will be paid compensation in case of damage to crops. The farmers will be covered in case of natural calamities. The scheme will be implemented from the Kharif season 2016, Agrawal said.
The Minister said that farmers suffer due to vagaries of nature like drought and floods. The crops diseases can be controlled by insecticides and pest control methods. The new Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme will prove to be a boon to the farmers.
The farmers all over the country will be compensated in a uniform way. The farmers will pay a minimum premium and avail maximum insurance coverage, he said.
Agrawal said that the scheme will boost the confidence of the farmers and give impetus to agriculture. Minimum premium to be paid will be two per cent for Kharif crops and 1.5 per cent premium to Rabi crops and the rest will be paid the Union Government. There are climatic changes and the monsoon season is arriving late in the entire country.
