Modi govt planning to end Forest Rights Act: Congress

Published on:

The Congress in Chhattisgarh on Sunday alleged that the Modi government was planning to abolish the Forest Right Act (FRA) 2006.

PCC chief Mohan Markam said in a statement that earlier it was mandatory to dispose off any violation of the Act before forest clearance was made for other uses under the Forest Conservation Act 1980.

This paves way to ease business to certain business groups and was against the interests of the tribals, he said.

“We will take to the streets and fight against the new rule," he said.
